I thought that in 1916 they believed Jesus came to power in 1874 and in 1878 began to fully rule and the resurrection began then. Hence they thought he had gone to heaven.
It wasn't until about 1922 they began to see new light and eventually changed 1874 to 1914 and 1878 to 1918. Fully sorted in 1943 with the book "The truth shall set you free"

one of the cornerstones of the watchtower society's claims about the 1918 trial of joseph f. rutherford and seven other co-defendants, is that the trial was a travesty of justice, where the defendants were railroaded off to prison.. to make their point, the society has repeatedly stated that joseph rutherford and his fellow defendants were "exonerated" of all charges, and subsequently released from prison fully vindicated.
the society also attributed this 'victory' to jehovah's hand in matters, restoring the symbolic 'two witnesses' spoken of in revelation, and thereby, reactivating the kingdom preaching work.. what actually transpired is that the convicted defendants filed a petition for a "writ of error.
" (trial transcript, pages 1-10, parts 1-30 ) the writ of error was allowed by the trial court, judge howe, and granted by the district court judge chatfield, whom the society earlier objected to and had removed from their trial, because they felt he would not be fair to them.. what does this mean?
No wonder the WTS hates the internet! With information like this freely circulating they must be wondering how many more lies are going to be uncovered.

i was just reading another post and this question has been nagging at me for sometime.
we keep hearing that the woman are a large army in the preaching work and that the woman do most of the preaching.
ok the ones i know who pioneer just drive around aimlessly but whatever.
Women are still looked down on everywhere in the WTS.
They cannot run the magazine department or literature but they can tout them from door to door.
They cannot do the accounts but they can clean the KH.

i did, and it was quite disturbing.
it turns out i've been arrested for attempted murder.
A man with the same name as me murdered a young boy.
They never found the culprit until after his death when his brother was arrested on a minor matter and they found a close DNA match. They had a sample of the culprits lung saved from an operation and they got a perfect DNA match to this.
The worrying thing was this guy lived not too far from me and looked very much like me. My wife thought we were so alike there must be some family connection.

They can pretend all they want that the governing body has been in operation for a hundred years or more or even back to Jesus' time. The fact of the matter is the GB was formed on Friday 1 October 1971 at the AGM.
If you want to read about this event turn up December 15, 1971 WT and read the relevant article.
After that try to find details of any meetings of the GB BEFORE that date. I don't think there are many!! The GB was the WTS until 1971.

Major departures in 1925 when end of world failed again. Thought to over 50%. Had to rebadge as JW's in 1931

i do.. now that i am out i find it funny and very ironic that i made fun of such "absurd" beliefs.. here is a list of the top of my head that i used to believe:.
1. that 144,000 people will taken from the earth at random and appointed a immortal kings and priests in heaven.
That all mankind and all animals came from a boat load of 8 people and all the earths animals less than 5000 years ago.

did you really have anything in common other than the same religion?
Met my wife at a Circuit Assembly, engaged in six weeks and married in just 5 months. However we were not teenagers, both in our twenties.
While courting we never had a chaperone and even went off to a DC together for a week, although we had different accomodation. We have now been married 40 years and still get on very well. Never thought it was anyone's business what we did in private so never had any guilty feelings.
I think the only fly in the ointment has been these last two years when I have found the truth about the truth. My wife thinks I am very negative about the WTS and I have to be very careful what I say. I certainly haven't told her about this site yet! I am still a fairly active JW but if I could get through to her and leave as a couple I would do so, even at the risk of losing other family members, including 90 year old mother.
If I were a teenager however in 2010, I would walk regardless.
